Naturally dyed Easter Eggs

Writer's picture: Frances CouperFrances Couper

This was the first time that we have used natural dyes to dye eggs. The colours weren't as vibrant as I hoped and so we think we might experiment with leaving them in longer next time!

You will need;

Hard boiled eggs

White vinegar

Natural Food colourings (how to make these here)

Kitchen Roll

String/twine/wax crayons (optional)

This is a messy make. We did it outside but if you were inside, definitely cover up surfaces, children etc!!

Make;

Simply dip your egg in the white vinegar for around 30 sec/ one minute and then into one of the dyes for a couple of minutes (we used desert spoons to lower eggs in and out). Dry on a good few layers of kitchen roll, rolling the egg around from time to time so that it dries evenly.

Wonder

We wondered what would happen if you left the eggs in the vinegar or the dye a bit longer. We also tied string around the egg before dying it to see what would happen (some nice patterns). We then began to wonder what else we could dye...watch this space!!
